The Royal Legacy

The Royal name holds a long-standing legacy in Virginia medicine. Brothers Frank and Harry Royal played a pivotal role in shaping healthcare in Richmond, and that legacy continues through Doctors Royal and Love.

Pamela J. Royal, M.D.

Dr. Pamela Royal is a board-certified dermatologist with more than thirty-five years of experience in private practice. She earned her medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School and completed her dermatology residency at Howard University Hospital. Over the course of her career, Dr. Royal has been recognized for her clinical expertise and industry leadership, previously serving on the advisory board of Stiefel and as a member of the speakers bureau for Novartis and Galderma.

She currently serves on the boards of Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (Vice President and Chair Fiscal Oversight Committee), The Valentine (former chair), and YMCA of Greater Richmond. She has previously served on the Boards of the Community Foundation for a Greater Richmond (former chair), The United Way of Greater Richmond Petersburg (former chair), Bon Secours Health System, Richmond Performing Arts, Richmond Performing Arts Alliance (former Vice President), J, Sargeant Reynolds Community College Foundation and the Greater Richmond of Commonwealth. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Dominion Energy.

Dr. Royal enjoys spending time with her husband, four adult children, and three grandchildren. A proud Richmond native, she is deeply committed to celebrating, supporting, and advancing the Richmond community in all that she does.

Karen Royal Love, M.D.

Dr. Karen Royal Love is a highly respected physician with more than thirty years of experience in clinical practice. She earned her medical degree from Meharry Medical College. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine and her residency in Dermatology at Martin Luther King Jr. - Charles Drew Medical Center. Her educational experiences developed a strong foundation in patient-centered care and service to diverse communities and continues to propel her career years later.

Dr. Love is deeply committed to both her profession and her faith. She is actively involved in her church, where she holds leadership roles within her choir and food ministries. She finds joy and purpose in using music as a form of service and connection.

She is married and the proud mother of three sons. Dr. Love values family, faith, and community, and she brings those principles into every aspect of her life and work.
